At his Gamescom keynote yesterday, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg knew he had to address the elephant in the room, and did so by asking his colleagues to focus on delivering great games, not on bad mouthing each other in the press. The first of these lawsuits was filed back in July by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing. The lawsuit filed today by the EEOC demanded that Activision Blizzard compensate employees affected by the inequality with back pay and damages, as well as insurance that the company would “institute and carry out policies, practices, and programs to ensure equal employment opportunities, and which eradicate the effects of its past and present unlawful employment practices....

On July 2, the SAG-AFTRA union sent a “Do Not Work” notice to its members about Songbird, saying that the movie’s producers had “failed to complete the signatory process and is therefore not signed to any applicable SAG-AFTRA agreement.” Members of SAG-AFTRA, which also represents video game voice actors, are “instructed to withhold any acting services or perform any covered work” until “further notice” and said that anyone who does accept work on the movie would be in violation of SAG-AFTRA’s rules and could be given “disciplinary action”....
